Hello and welcome to the first issue of “Horsin’ Around”, a monthly article that brings you the latest news in and around the dA Equine Community! Each month will be packed full of articles all showcasing the work of our talented artists. There will also be interviews with your favourite equine artists, links to helpful accounts, contests and tutorials, a “Love for the Unloved” section which showcases the deviations that I feel deserves more faves, and there will also be stamps for you readers and featured artists to use in your journals/shoutboxes too! Since this is the first issue, I’d be grateful if you could give me feedback on what you think of it, and if you have any suggestions for future issues, I’d love to hear them. I hope you enjoy this first volume, and thanks for reading!

Digital Equine Artist of the Month</u>
A young deviant with a gallery packed full of magical and mystical creations, ~Malcassairo has talent and imagination beyond her years! She is friendly and approachable, and I can see her talent progressing with every upload. A trip to her gallery is highly recommended - you won't be disappointed!
Traditional Equine Artist of the Month</u>
A beautifully drawn gallery consisting of a wide variety of mediums, ~scenceable has a keen eye for colour composition, and a wonderful imagination! Every one of her pictures tells a story. Please go check out her lovely gallery!
An Interview With...

Every month, I will be interviewing one of your favourite equine artists! This month, it is ~silverglass19. She has been a member of deviantART for five years, and within that time has graced dA with her amazing artwork, the awesome web comic "Everlee", the ever-so popular Bacabello breed and of course, her wickedly funny sense of humour! To those of you don’t know this popular and friendly deviant, please be sure to take a moment to stop by her wonderful gallery – you won’t be disappointed!
Hello and thank you for joining us! Could you tell us a little about yourself?
---I'm Liz Fuller, 24, Michigan, USA. I'm an artist and a writer, but until one of those pays the bills, I also work retail in a clothing store.
Cool. How long have you been drawing horses for?
---Since I can remember, honestly. Although in the beginning they weren't so much "horses" as they were "boxes with legs."
Wow, really? Can you tell us why you enjoy drawing them so much?
---Something about them has always fascinated me. I like the way they're shaped.
Do you have a particular way of drawing horses?
---I draw shapes, mostly, but sometimes I do a line-skeleton too, to try to get proportions and placement more correct.
Interesting. Can you share with us what your very favourite piece in your gallery is?
---I don't really have one, but I do think the lighting on [link] turned out quite well.
Looks amazing! Do you have an OC (original character)? Can you tell us a little about him/her?
---Yup, I have a few! My first was Adelais, though. She's a wild dunskin mare with a scar above her eye, and the main character of my webcomic, Everlee.
That’s great. Is there any particular part of equine anatomy that you find difficult to draw?
Ears are a constant struggle, and hooves are tricky as well--shape and placement, you know!
Good to know we all have trouble, then! Do you own any horses? If not, do you ride?
---Nope, I've never owned my own horse, which is probably part of the reason I'm still obsessed with them! I used to ride, but haven't in years. Sadness!
And do you have a favourite breed?
---I like the baroque breeds. Andalusians and Lusitanos and Friesians and such. They are teh sexy.
Awesome! You’ve been an inspiration to a number of budding equine artists out there – can you share some tips to those just starting out?
---Study study study real horses. The best thing you can do for yourself is draw from photos to the point of exhaustion. Eventually you'll learn and remember the different shapes and rules of anatomy, and you'll be able to start developing your own style.
Thank you for your time. Any last pieces of advice you can give to your fellow equine artists?
---Say it, don't spray it!
